What We Do

The Sports, Culture, Youth & Recreation (SCYR) Department provides opportunities for youth to participate in sports, recreation, cultural programming, and leadership development.

sports programming

Providing opportunities for youth to participate in hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, soccer, athletics, beach volleyball, & other organized sports.

recreation programs

Offering recreational activities that encourage creativity, participation, and lifelong learning, including weekly beading, ribbon skirt making, and hide tanning.

cultural programming

Supporting cultural learning through annual cultural events, Pow Wow singing, and opportunities to learn from Elders.

youth development

Creating opportunities for youth to build confidence, leadership skills, and represent Beardy’s & Okemasis Cree Nation both within the community and beyond.

coaching & leadership

Providing coaching clinics and Aboriginal Coaching Modules that support coaches, volunteers, and community leaders.

inclusive programming

Supporting inclusive initiatives such as Building Bridges, which provides programming for Two-Spirit and gender-diverse youth.

Our Purpose

The Sports, Culture, Youth & Recreation Department (SCYR) is dedicated to providing meaningful opportunities for youth to participate in sports, recreation, and cultural programming. By creating positive experiences that encourage teamwork, healthy lifestyles, leadership, and cultural connection, the department helps young people grow both personally and within the community. SCYR also provides opportunities for youth to represent Beardy’s & Okemasis Cree Nation through local, regional, and provincial sporting events while promoting cultural learning through traditional activities and community celebrations.
