our nation

BOCN is a forward-looking Nation and a close knit community that takes pride in caring for one another. Sovereign under Treaty No. 6, BOCN prioritizes community led governance, accountability, and transparency. BOCN is comprised of Willow Cree people and is part of the greater Plains Cree Nation of the Saskatchewan river region. Many BOCN members also have direct ties to the Swampy Cree, Woods Cree, Saulteaux (Anishinaabe), Dakota, Nakota, Dene, and Métis Nations. BOCN is located near the historic sites of Fort Carlton, Batoche, and Duck Lake—places central to key moments in Canada’s history, including Louis Riel’s Resistance of 1885, the story of Almighty Voice, and the original signing of Treaty No. 6.

message from
the chief

I want to take a moment to speak directly to our community about the path forward for Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation. Clear communication is an important part of that work. This website is being developed as a central place where members can stay informed about community updates, programs, events, Chief and Council initiatives, and opportunities that affect our Nation. Whether it’s housing, economic development, community gatherings, or important notices, this platform will help ensure information is accessible and transparent. We encourage all members to visit the site regularly, stay connected, and be involved.

Ekosi,

Edwin Ananas
