Our Purpose
The St. Michael’s Project was established by Beardy’s & Okemasis Cree Nation to uncover the truth about the children who attended St. Michael’s Indian Residential School in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan, and never returned home. The project is committed to identifying missing children, locating potential unmarked burial sites, documenting Survivor and community knowledge, and preserving the oral histories of former students. Working collaboratively with Survivors, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, family members, researchers, archivists, and partner communities, the project honours those impacted by the residential school system while supporting truth, healing, remembrance, and reconciliation.
